"Outstanding" collection of gold coins to go under hammer

An "outstanding" collection of US commemorative coins including a number of rare gold pieces is to go under the hammer in Houston, Texas in December, it has been announced.Heritage Auction Galleries said the Steven Forcier Collection includes a "complete set of gold US classic commemoratives" including both the round and octagonal versions of the "ever popular" 1915 Panama-Pacific $50.
Among the other gold coins in the sale are a number of 1903 $1 Louisiana Purchase commemorative pieces, two 1904 coins celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition and a pair of 1915 Panama-Pacific gold dollars.
In addition, the collection includes Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles, Liberty Double Eagles and commemorative coins dating from 1916, 1917, 1922 and 1926.
The coins will be offered for sale at the Housing Signature Auction at the George R Brown Convention Center from December 3rd to December 6th.
