Economic indicators suggest that the US economy is on the brink of, or already in, recession. There are obvious winners and losers in terms of asset performance in a recession, but how is gold likely to fare? This paper examines the impact of changes in US GDP growth on the gold price and concludes that a US recession would not necessarily have negative implications for the gold price. The paper also seeks to explain why this might be.
